A spokeswoman for Electricity North West said: “The crown court is the only building affected in the area and has been without power since 10am.
“The outage is due to an underground cable fault and a generator has been ordered.
“Once that has arrived at the court our engineers will connect it up so that power will be restored.
"Technicians are on Whittan Street getting ready to repair the underground cable. The electricity is coming on every ten minutes but going back off again."
