AN OPEN day on the humanitarian crisis in Syria is taking place in Burnley tomorrow night.

The event is one of a number taking place across the country organised by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).

The open day at at the Stoneyholme Community Centre will be a chance to how Government, individuals and the community can work together to help the Syrian people and those in the region.

It will give local people an opportunity to discuss what more can be done, ask any questions they have about the UK’s response to the crisis, and find out how the £600 million of UK aid is being used to help.

Sir Vincent Fean, former consul general of Jerusalem and ex-St Theodore’s RC student in Burnley, said: “This exceptional humanitarian crisis requires an exceptional response and the British Government remains committed to doing all it can to help the 9.3 million Syrians in need of humanitarian assistance.

“The open day is an opportunity for the Government to share how £600 million of UK aid is getting to those in Syria and the region that need it as well as to explore what more can be done to support those whose lives have been turned upside down.

“The local communities in Burnley are already doing a great deal to help by raising money for charities supporting the Syrian people and I look forward to meeting them and hearing their fundraising stories.”

The open day will run between 11am and 4pm, and is open to all.
