A PLAN to bulldoze a mill building to make way for houses looks set to be approved, despite a petition from neighbours.

They claim the proposal to build 21 houses at Coates New Mill, Barnoldswick, home to Hope Technology, will make roads more dangerous, while three-storey buildings will look out-of-place and residents of them would suffer noise and fumes from the nearby Rolls-Royce plant.

But in a report to Tuesday's meeting of Pendle Council's West Craven Committee, planning officer Janet Filbin said the principle of building houses had already been agreed to when the Skipton Road site was given outline planning permission a year ago.

She said there were no legal reasons to refuse the application, and the latest application related only to details of the development.

The company has been asked to change the layout of the development to better accommodate the canalside and shape of the road, but the report said other issues, like traffic and noise levels, had been taken into account.

West Craven committee will decide on the plan at the meeting at Salterforth Baptist Chapel at 7pm.
