A 45-year-old engineer died of meningitis after he had complained of feeling unwell for a few days.

An inquest heard that Jeffrey Croasdale had not been to the doctor or hospital "for years" before being struck by the disease which is more usually associated with children.

His wife, Ann Croasdale, of John Street, Church, said Jeffrey had been complaining of an upset stomach for a number of days and had been sweating heavily and had a high temperature.

On November 19 he again complained of feeling unwell and went back to bed. He was found dead there later.

A post-mortem examination revealed the medical cause of death was lymphoscytic meningitis.

Recording a verdict of natural causes, coroner Michael Singleton said Mr Croasdale had contracted a virus and could not have anticipated it would have been life threatening for someone his age.
