THREE men are set to face trial over the death of a man who plunged 40 foot from a former mill.
Ex-Latvian carpenter Ivars Bahamis, 54, was killed when he fell while working on the roof of a factory next to the former Canal Works in Manner Sutton Street, Blackburn in January 2012.
The Health and Safety Executive has now levelled charges against three men all linked with a firm associated with the site.
Mohammed Shafi, of St John’s House, Clarence Street, Blackburn, is accused, as company secretary of Marhaba Cash and Carry, of two offences of failing to discharge duties under the Health and Safety Act.
Tameem Shafi, 30, also of St John’s House, a director of the same firm, is facing two similar charges and two offences under regulations covering work at height.
These involve Mr Bahamis’ death, and a second incident at the site, in November 2011, involving a man called Juris Lesinkis.
Umar Mohammed Shafi, 20, also of St John’s House, faces only two charges involving the working at height regulations.
Their firm, Marhaba, registered to an address in Cornhill, Lincoln, faces related charges. All are due before Preston Crown Court on November 10.
