CLITHEROE Cubs and Scouts have been helping to tidy up Salthill Quarry.
The youngsters from St Mary Magdalene Scout Group undertook the project on Monday night as part of the Scout Community Week.
The Salthill Quarry is a nature reserve managed by Lancashire Wildlife Trust and boasts a mixture of vegetation from the earliest stages of soil development on limestone, from limestone grassland, which is rare in Lancashire, through to woodland.
The geology trail around the quarry is now part of longer new Clitheroe Geological Heritage Trail, which details a seven-mile walk around three quarries in Clitheroe.
The Scouts worked alongside Homebase and Hanson’s Cement to help improve some of the paths around the quarry. They laid 30 metres of weed control membrane and moved and laid four tonnes of stone to create a new path in an area that can get flooded.
They have also assisted in cutting back, and clearing a 50-metre stretch of path and creating habitat piles for the wildlife.
