EAST Lancashire star Sophie Hitchon admits she is delighted with her Commonwealth Games call as the 22-year-old was confirmed in the England team for this summer’s event in Glasgow.
Hitchon is part of a 192-strong England athletics squad for the Games in Glasgow, which begin next month.
And the Burnley star said: “I am pleased to have been selected for my first Commonwealth Games with Team England.”
Hammer thrower Hitchon will be aiming to improve on her 12th place finish in the London 2012 Olympics. She is joined in the squad by double Olympic champion Mo Farah who will run in the 5,000m and 10,000m, London 2012 long jump gold medalist Greg Rutherford, sprinter Adam Gemili and hepathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson.
Hitchon is also part of the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team for the European Team Championships in Germany this weekend.
