RIBBLE Valley MP Nigel Evans has praised the efforts of two local environmentalists undertaking a 75-mile charity trek.
Jack Spees, director of the Ribble Rivers Trust, and Mark Rudd, fisheries officer for the Environment Agency, are taking on the Ribble Way Challenge, walking non-stop from the estuary at Preston to the source of the River Ribble in the Yorkshire Dales.
The pair will set off early on August 1 and continue through the night, reaching the finish line on Gayle Moor early the following morning.
They are hoping to raise £4,000 to split between the Ribble Rivers Trust and Water Aid.
Mr Evans said: “The Ribble Rivers Trust is an important local charity which aims to protect and restore the river, streams and watercourses within the Ribble catchment and to raise public awareness of the value of our local rivers and streams.
“A £15 donation improves 10 metres of river by planting trees and erecting fences to reduce pollution, erosion and flooding.”
