THE future of a Ribble Valley cricket ground ‘could be under threat’ after the owners announced their intention to sell.
Chipping Cricket Club, who have been playing at the ground in Old Hive since 1950, could be forced to fold after owners 53N submitted planning permission to Ribble Valley Borough Council to redevelop the site.
The announcement comes after two years of negotiations between the club and the land owners who have offered to find the club a new home if the planning permission is approved.
A public meeting is set to be held in the village hall tomorrow to discuss the future of the ground.
The meeting, which will start at 7.45pm, has been organised because the land is included on the Ribble Valley Register of Community Assets Register which entitles groups and individuals to express an interest in acquiring the site as a community facility, before it goes on the market.
Malcolm Kenyon, the club’s president, said: “The club could be under threat if a new location is not found if the planning permission is approved. This is a worrying time for the club.”
