A LOST purse could be a vital clue for detectives searching for a sex attacker.
The small, black imitation-leather purse, which contained a small amount of cash, was dropped by a 41-year-old woman who was sexually assaulted near the George and Dragon pub, Bacup, in the early hours of New Year's Day.
She had been walking home along a ginnel between Rochdale Road and Ramsey Avenue about 3.15am when she was attacked.
Det Insp Sam Birtwell said that if the purse was found, it could help lead police to her attacker, and urged anyone who found one like it to hand it in to police.
The attacker is described as a stocky white male aged 25 to 30 years and 5ft 9in tall, with black hair. He was wearing a blue top and lighter blue jeans.
