AN Accrington father has pledged to undergo three gruelling physical challenges in the next three months to raise £1,000 for the Wooley Foundation, a charity set up by his friend who died last year.
Scott Slater, 27, is training for a half ironman triathlon, a coast to coast cycle and a marathon, all of which he will complete before the end of June.
Scott, who works as a bakery manager at Accrington Asda, has been running 30 miles each week as well as cycling for 60 miles and swimming 100 lengths.
Scott said: “I’ve always done a lot of running so that’s fine but swimming and cycling is much newer to me and I am more worried about that.”
The Wooley Foundation is a charity set up by Scott’s friend, Warren Wolstencroft, an ex-serviceman from Accrington who died in June last year after a long battle against cancer.
Father-of-four Warren served in the Queen’s Lancashire Regiment and was diagnosed with rare form of bone cancer, Epithelioid Sarcoma, in 2001.
He underwent an arm amputation to combat the illness. Even while terminally ill, Warren tirelessly raised money for BLESMA, a charity which helps for disabled servicemen and women.
