A MOTHER has appealed for help to find a man who assaulted her 16-year-old daughter in the street.

Stacey Meechan was headbutted as she went to meet her mum, Christine Hall, early on New Year's Day.

Miss Meechan, of Chester Close, Blackburn, suffered a bruised left cheek in the incident, which happened at around 8am.

Mrs Hall said: "It was unbelievable this could happen. I had to take her to hospital. It is amazing that she wasn't more seriously hurt."

The attack took place near the Fountain pub in Accrington Road, Blackburn.

She said as her daughter was walking, a dark-coloured car pulled up and two young men jumped out. One of the men headbutted her and they then got back in the car and left.

Mrs Hall said that her daughter had been left "in a right state" after the assault.

She said: "You just don't expect it. Stacey was lucky that there was no fracture.

"She is having trouble eating but fortunately there will be no lasting damage."

She said she hopes that anyone who witnessed the attack will contact the police.

Lancashire police said officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the attack.

Call the police on 01254 51212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
