Young people at Blackburn Central High School are doing their bit to promote community relations in the town.
They are working with local voluntary group Discover Communities to develop a project to challenge extremist views in a positive way, and promote community cohesion.
Students have been developing project plans to educate and inform regarding the facts behind extremist views, with a view to exposing false accusations and ideologies and promote understanding.
The project will bring drama into school with a home office approved play called “From One Extreme to the Other”.
The students also put their ideas to a special “Dragons Den” of experts including the Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for Lancashire and Discover Communities Staff.
They competed for funds alongside Darwen Aldridge Community Academy – who are also part of the project.
The Dragons invested £1600 with BCHS and £1400 with DACA. Both BCHS and DACA will be working with other schools in the borough to promote their plans in partnership.
