THE youngster who captured East Lancashire’s heart when a fundraising campaign was launched to get him potentially life-saving treatment in the US has started immunotherapy.

Four-year-old Sam Shaw, of Hoddlesden, needed £250,000 for the treatment in Philadelphia for neuroblastoma.

And after cash was raised across the region, the youngster, of Glencoe Avenue, began his treatment earlier this week.

Mum Christine said: “A homecare nurse trained me how to administer Sam’s daily injections.

“He will need to have two weeks of daily injections which at home and will be admitted to hospital on Friday for the first cycle of antibodies to be given.

“If he has no reactions or complications to this part of treatment he should be out of hospital within five days.”
