EIGHT people have been arrested on suspicion of burglary offences in a series of raids in Burnley and Bacup today.

Warrants were executed at addresses in Constable Avenue, Nairne Street and Hebrew Road, in Burnley; Prince Street in Bacup and Monmouth Street, Blackburn. The action comes as part of Operation Julius, the police countywide campaign to tackle burglary.

Those arrested are: A 22 year old man from Constable Avenue, Burnley has been arrested in suspicion of conspiracy to commit a burglary dwelling with intent to steal and conspiracy to take a motor vehicle without the consent of the owner/ lawful authority.

A 26 year old man from Nairne Street, Burnley has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a burglary dwelling with intent to steal and conspiracy to take a motor vehicle without the consent of the owner/ lawful authority.

A 29 year old man from Hebrew Road, Burnley has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a burglary dwelling with intent to steal and conspiracy to take a motor vehicle without the consent of the owner/ lawful authority.

A 22 year old man has been produced from HMP Forest Bank on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a burglary dwelling with intent to steal and conspiracy to take a motor vehicle without the consent of the owner/ lawful authority.

An 18 year old man from Wynotham Street, Burnley has been arrested on suspicion of burglary dwelling and theft. A 19 year old man from Albert Street, Brierfield, has been arrested on suspicion of burglary dwelling with intent to steal.

A 27 year old woman from Prince Street, Bacup has been arrested on suspicion of burglary other than a dwelling - theft.

A 30 year old man from Prince Street, Bacup has been arrested on suspicion of burglary other than a dwelling with intent to steal.

They are currently being questioned by officers.

Officers have also been in the Briercliffe Road and Colne Road areas of Burnley today providing high visibility patrols in order to help deter thieves and reassure local residents. Chief Inspector Derry Crorken said: “This morning’s raids are part of our on-going commitment to tackle burglary offenders.

“We know that burglary has a huge impact on victims through not only having valuable and often sentimental items stolen from them, but also because someone has actually been on their property and often within their home. “We will continue to pursue burglars and bring them to justice.”
