A BRIDEGROOM spent his wedding night in a police cell after being arrested at the reception.

Police said they were called to the Dunkenhalgh Hotel, in Clayton-le-Moors, on Saturday night after reports of a drunken fight.

The man’s sister was also being questioned by police yesterday. The pair’s identities have not been released.

Insp Graham Lister, from Lancashire Police’s eastern division, said: “We turned up to the aftermath.

We were informed there had been a fight at the Dunkenhalgh at a party and the groom and his sister have been arrested.”

Police said they had to wait until yesterday morning to speak to those involved because of the amount of alcohol they had consumed.

It is not known where the bride was at the time of the fight.

The Dunkenhalgh is a popular and well-respected four-star hotel, spa and wedding venue.

On its website, it says it can cater for weddings of up to 300 people.

Managers at the hotel said they could not confirm that the incident had taken place.

Police said a 34-year-old man, from Blackburn, has been arrested on suspicion of breach of the peace and a 29-year-old woman, also from Blackburn, was arrested on suspicion of obstructing a police officer.

They were being questioned at Greenbank Police Station in Blackburn yesterday.
