STUDENTS are being offered free bus travel if they clock up 100 per cent attendance in classes at Burnley College.

Education bosses are running the scheme in association with bus company Transdev.

Full-time students at Burnley College Sixth Form can pay £2 for a weekly pass to use on buses. However, if they have 100 per cent attendance in lessons and tutorials, the fee will be refunded.

Students can use any Transdev bus service, seven days a week. Sixth formers can board the buses by showing the special Seven Day Silver ticket and a current Burnley College Student ID card.

Eligible students need to pay for their Transdev Student Silver special ticket, which is limited to Burnley College, before the start of each term.

A Burnley College spokesman said: “It’s something that the college decided to offer after meetings with Transdev.”

Burnley MP Gordon Birtwistle said: “It’s very good indeed. There’s nothing wrong with a bit of an incentive. Though pupils need to show up regardless of the reward, it’s good to have something to aim towards.

“I am sure this will help many pupils.”

A Transdev spokesman said: “We work with local colleges to support them in offering reduced fares for students on weekly and monthly tickets.

“These tickets are usually on sale from student services, and you need to show your Student ID Card when you travel.”
