A DRIVER had to be cut from her car when she was involved in a road traffic collision.

The incident happened as she approached the Rising Bridge roundabout on the northbound carriageway of the A56 at around 3.05pm today.

Firefighters had to remove the roof of the silver Nissan Almeria the woman was driving so that she could be brought out on a spinal board.

Paramedics were concerned that she could have been suffering from spinal injuries.

She was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital for treatment.

The collision also involved one other car, however the driver of that vehicle was not injured.

Motorists report long delays as emergency services worked to free the woman.
