FLAGS were raised in front of town halls across East Lancashire in the run-up to Armed Forces Day, this Saturday.
Among those who marked the event, at 11am yesterday, were dignitaries and schoolchildren in Blackburn, Accrington, Burnley, and Rawtenstall.
Armed Forces Day is an annual, national campaign giving the public an opportunity to show support for the men, and women, of the armed forces, past and present, including serving troops, service families, veterans and cadets. Showing their support were 12 pupils from Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, in Blackburn.
Headteacher Simon Corns said: “I think it is really important that we support events such as this, if only to remind all our pupils of the importance of our armed services.”
Events on Armed Forces Day will include a parade in Darwen town square, at 11am.
