GENEROUS staff and customers at Pendle Leisure Trust have raised £1,729.61 for a poorly Hoddlesden boy – and plan to raise even more.

Four-year-old Sam Shaw is battling neuroblastoma, an aggressive childhood cancer. Money is being raised to send him to the US for potentially life-saving treatment.

Sam’s mum Christine worked at the Trust’s head office in Colne so when staff heard the devastating news they wanted to help.

For the past few weeks, staff have been baking cakes, cooking curries and taking part in sponsored events and challenges. More events are planned, including a charity concert, family pool inflatable fun day and a treasure hunt.

Pendle Leisure Trust’s human resources manager Vanessa Kelly said: “Christine was a popular member of staff and we really felt for her and little Sam when we heard the news.

“There was no hesitation, we wanted to do something and the rest of the staff were right behind us.”

Sam needs £250,000 to pay for the treatment and associated costs. The therapy he needs is not available in the UK and will not be funded by the NHS.
