FIREFIGHTERS rowed for almost five hours to raise money for the Sam Shaw Appeal.

Darwen Fire Station crew members took to a rowing machine in Market Place, in a bid to collect as much cash as possible to send the four-year-old neuroblastoma patient to America for treatment, which is not available on the NHS.

They completed 67,600 metres, the same distance as travelling from Dover to Calais and back.

Watch manager Tony Keane said: “It was great to be involved in helping Sam, especially with him being somebody in our local community. I really hope the charity manages to collect enough money for the treatment he needs.”

Around £250 was raised on the day.
