ACCRINGTON will be lit up by the glow of festive lights and an explosion of festive fireworks tomorrow night as the annual Christmas light switch-on takes place in the town centre.
Hyndburn Mayor Coun Mohamed Rahman will be joined by Take That tribute band Want U Back and the cats of Oswaldtwistle's Cinderella pantomime to flick the switch and start the town's Christmas celebrations.
Proceedings will begin outside the town hall at 5.30pm with a show by Accrington and Rossendale College's performing arts students.
Want U Back will then take to the stage before the big switch-on at 6.30pm.
The festive firework spectacular will start at 6.40pm.
There will also be funfair rides for the children, a visit from Santa and his sleigh and the town centre shops will stay open until 8pm.
Town centre manager Bill Huntley said: "The switch-on marks the beginning of late- night shopping, with shops staying open until 7pm on Thursdays.
"The Christmas period is a very important one for the retailers in Accrington as they take around 40 per cent of their annual profits between now and the new year."
