THE final phase of a £387,000 extension at Edenfield C of E Primary School has been officially opened by the Mayor of Rossendale.

The Market Street school, which has 140 pupils aged four to 11, has undergone an extensive revamp in the last year which has seen new classrooms and kitchen facilities installed.

Headteacher Janet Reidy said: “The improvements have made things much better for the children and the teachers.

“Previously we had classrooms that were only accessible through other classrooms and there won’t be that disruption any more because we have a new corridor.

“We also have a new reception classroom and a kitchen so we can prepare school meals on site, when previously we had to order them in from outside.

“By having more classrooms we can also free up the school hall for indoor sports."
