FIREFIGHTERS battled a gas main fire in Baxenden in the early hours today.
Crews from Accrington Fire Station were called to the blaze at an outhouse.
The residents were woken up by smoke alarms in the bungalow in Whitecroft View, allowing them to get out safely.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel to tackle the flames.
There was significant damage to the outhouse and contents caused by fire and heat, with slight smoke damage to the main house itself.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation but is thought to be suspicious.
Acting Crew Manager Chris Archer said: “We found a well established fire that had involved the gas main and meter.
"Once this was identified we had to control the blaze but allow it to burn until the gas supply was isolated. We would like to remind people to keep all outdoor storage areas secure to reduce their risk of fire.
