A CAR dealer could be facing jail after he got a gang to viciously beat up two mechanics because a vehicle he left for repair wasn't ready in time.

Mohammed Mazar, a 36-year-old father of three, had been angry with Deividas Zirgulis and Thomas Vaitonas because he had been told his Mercedes would take about a week to be resprayed and, a jury was told, it ended up taking about a month. Mazar, said to have been losing money on the vehicle, which he wanted to sell, had " snapped" left their Colne garage in a huff and organised some friends to launch a terrifying attack on the two victims, in September 2011.

The hearing was told Mazar, also said to have also been trying to get out of paying the £500 cost of the work, then fabricated a story about some other people setting about the two men.

Burnley Crown Court had been told when the defendant, also a part- time ice cream seller, was arrested and questioned by police, he made no comment. Giving evidence to the trial, he had claimed the violence was nothing to do with him and he had tried to stop it.

The defendant, of Knotts Lane, Colne, had denied two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm and one charge of affray during a three day trial. He was found guilty by the jury on Thursday and was bailed until February 19, when he will be sentenced by Recorder Robert Crawford.
