A £40,000 fundraising campaign has been launched to pay for urgent repairs to St Mary's Church, Todmorden.

The committee has launched a raffle with a first prize of £500 and said there was an encouraging response from an open day in the church last Sunday.

Chairman of the committee Dennis Brunt said: "Every five years the church has a thorough inspection, and the most recent one has brought to light some remedial work on the church tower and the clock needs some urgent reoairs..

"Some of the glass faces are badly cracked and need to be replaced before they fall out.

"It makes sense to get the restoration work done at the same time and as the church clock is a very prominent feature in the town."
