EXPOSED IN THE LIGHT

SOMETHING a bit different from what is generally regarded as the best tribute band in the world.

The Australian Pink Floyd Show (TAPFS) have been performing the music of Pink Floyd for 25 years; lauded by members of the original band (they played at guitarist David Gilmour’s 50th birthday at his own request), they also employ some of Pink Floyd’s behind-the-scenes staff.

This two-hour plus film was shot at various locations during the band’s 2012 tour.

Some of the more recognisable songs from Floyd’s repertoire were rested during the tour – hence the omission of Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Another Brick in the Wall and Run Like Hell.

But the inclusion of more tracks from Animals – Sheep and Pigs (Three Different Ones), as well as Take It Back more than make up for that.

Forget about continuity; some of the live performances feature visuals from a number of shows, but the sound is top class.

TAPFS has become more than just a tribute band, they now carry the torch of Floyd’s music since we can almost certainly rule out any more performances from Messrs Gilmour and Mason.

And this DVD is more than just a film of the live show, it’s also part documentary as between the songs we are treated to behind the scenes footage of the band and crew setting up the show and preparing for it – as well as interviews with band and crew.

Insightful, informative and spectacular in equal amounts, this is the first chance we’ve had to see just what goes on behind these shows.
