IN the spring of 2012, after an 11-year hiatus, Steps undertook a triumphant reunion tour of the UK.

This DVD, filmed at the O2 in London, captures the quintet at their very best.

The tour comprised 22 sell-out arena shows which had Lisa, Claire, Faye, H and Lee perform in front of 200,000 fans.

The opening of the concert – which has the five band-members supposedly coming out of suspended animation – is a clever touch and it has to be said that they – for the most part – look pretty much the same.

All the hits were performed, from 5,6,7,8 to Tragedy; with Heartbeat, Chain Reaction and Stomp in between – to name but three.

The dancing was as it was a decade ago, and ably complemented by a troupe of dancers.

Everything bar the kitchen sink was thrown in – even fire dancing!

The crowd comprised original fans, children of original fans and a large percentage of the gay following the band seem to have attracted.

The audience was heavily featured as they all joined in with enthusiasm (but the sight of the two men holding hands is one that frankly I’d have preferred not to see).

As with the earlier tours, each band member had a solo spot, and they were all of a high calibre, but special mention has to be made of the effects during H’s spot, where it appeared he was actually interacting with them.

And Claire’s voice was absolutely ethereal.

The quintet gave their all, and as an extra bonus, they encored with a Steps version of Abba’s Dancing Queen.

Of course, watching a live show on TV isn’t quite as atmospheric as being there in the flesh, but as a souvenir of a tour that nobody thought would ever happen – it’s just the ticket.

One definitely for the Christmas wish-list.
