AN East Lancashire man is flying high after landing a top job with the world-famous Red Arrows aircraft display team.

Corporal Pete Targett, 34, from Accrington, has been selected for the prestigious role after spending more than 14 years with the Royal Air Force.

After being picked for the job he will to spend next summer flying with the Red Arrows as part of their back-seat support crew.

The former Mount Carmel High School pupil said: "It is a great honour to be selected to fly with the Red Arrows - it's a dream come true."

Pete will work as an engineer on the team.

He will be one of a 10-strong group of engineers known as the "circus", who will each be assigned to a specific aircraft and pilot throughout the 2007 summer display season.

He will travel as a passenger in one of the Red Arrows' two-seat Hawk aircraft in transit flights to over 90 display venues throughout the UK and Europe.

Once his aircraft arrives at the display's operating base, Pete will be responsible for servicing it before it can fly safely again.

Pete joined the Royal Air Force as a propulsion technician in 1992.

He served on Tornado F3 and Jaguar aircraft before joining the Red Arrows, and has taken part in air operations in Bosnia and Iraq.

He now lives in Lincoln with his wife Michelle and 12-year-old son Thomas.

He is a keen sportsman and a passionate supporter of Burnley FC.

Next year will be the Red Arrows' 43rd display season. Since the team's creation in 1965, theyhave flown over 4,000 displays in 52 countries.
