A BEHIND the scenes look at one of the area’s top theatres is taking place next month.

The volunteer team from Pendle Hippodrome Theatre Company will be drawing the curtain on the Edwardian venue on Sunday, September 2 and Friday, September 7, from 10am to 4pm.

Spokeswoman Milly Greenwood said: “People say ‘I’ve been to the theatre what can there possibly be to see?’.

“Well you will be surprised. If you have ever wanted to see what goes on behind the scenes of a working theatre this is the perfect opportunity.

“You can see how the scenery is ‘flown’, how the lighting and sound are managed, tour the dressing rooms and backstage areas and visit our extensive wardrobe and props departments.

“You can even ‘tread the boards’ on stage.”

Visitors will be able to browse the New Market Street, Colne, venue at leisure with a ‘self-guide sheet’ while the volunteer team will be on hand to answer questions, and displays will take place throughout.

The theatre group recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of the hippodrome’s refurbishment, and restoration to its Edwardian glory.

The free open days are being run in conjunction with English Heritage.
