Dancing on Ice week 2 is here and the long awaited debut of the remaining eight celebrities, raring to show what they are capable of doing out on the ice pad. Pair skaters opened the show (minus Torvill and Dean) skating to Pixie Lott live in the studio. Mark Hanretty, a former GB skater, performed a beautiful double axel as soon as he stepped on the ice!

Performing a variety of lifts, jumps and spins they kept the audience suitably entertained and in awe of their skills.

After last week special mention goes to the Ice Panel – the changes made seems to have freshened up the approach somewhat and the comments made were constructive, helpful and usually bang on the mark!

Jennifer Ellison and Daniel
Major shake up in this camp as Dan sustained a torn hamstring injury although physiotherapy seems to have sorted it out. I though the Charleston-esque routine really suited Jennifer’s style and her acting and performing abilities shone throughout the routine.

Positions held whilst in a lift were nice to look at and it showcased her amazing flexibility. I would have liked to see more solo skating from her but hopefully that will be shown in the coming weeks.

Sam Nixon and Alexandra
This was a confident and fast performance to “Fascination”.

No major lifts but a few little assisted jumps to show that Sam had control of his skates!

He seemed to really enjoy himself whilst on the ice and the step sequence incorporated twizzles and toe steps, which can be difficult and showed good balance on the blades.

High marks that topped his TV partners score from last week!

Rosemary Conley and Mark
Rosemary has been skating a couple of times a week for about two years so expectations were high. Skating to Fernando she looked lovely in a pink dress with a figure those half her age would envy!

It was a nicely suited piece of music and she looked very elegant whilst skating to it with nice leg extensions and positions in the lifts. To make it better I would like to see her turn her foot out whilst exiting lifts and also to skate without Mark. For the first week though, I was impressed with what Rosemary produced!

Laila Morse and Lukasz
Laila’s dress was much better this week after last weeks white number!

The start was very sedate and stationary – although it picked up a little when she started moving. I loved her singing throughout and she smiled all the way through the routine! She does have a bad shoulder and it will inhibit practice sessions and some movements, which is a shame.

Hopefully it will get better and we will see more of Laila in the coming weeks.

Sebastien Foucan and Brianne
Incorporating some of Sebastien’s free running moves into the routine made it quite exciting to watch but also the fact that his skating is well developed and he seems to have no fear at all.

Nice teapot, drags and a rotating low level lift added nice highlights to the programme.

He is a rough diamond and with a little work will look great on the ice. Hopefully we will see more of him in the weeks to come!

Chico and Jodeyne
Taking the place of the recently injured Chesney Hawkes, Chico (of X-Factor fame) stepped up to the plate well!

He doesn’t seem to take himself too seriously and that made for a fun performance to “Wild Thing”.

His skating isn’t too bad and he looked stable whilst twirling Jodeyne around in the air! He smiled throughout the entire routine and high marks from the judges were well deserved!

Corey Feldman and Brooke
I have to say Corey looked angry whilst skating to “Summer of 69”!

He was a little wooden in his skating skills and he tried to sell it from the shoulders up! Usually in skating the men try to showcase and lead the women but Brooke was certainly dragging him around the ice pad!

I was more distracted by the piece of hair hanging in front of his face - I really don’t know what I make of him to be honest!

Matthew Wolfenden and Nina
Usually the best skaters on Dancing on Ice come from dancing backgrounds.

Matthew has a dancing and gymnastic background so has attributes that will serve him well in the coming weeks! He also appears to be a perfectionist so training hard will be something that he achieves every time he steps on the ice.

He didn’t disappoint with his performance and moved across the ice like he had ben skating for years. I think we may have already found our winner! (Not too sure about the full leather ensemble though!)

The Skate – Off

Laila and Corey found themselves in the unfortunate position of having to skate again to save themselves from elimination.

Laila was up first and skated a routine very similar to her first although she did look less fearful. Corey also skated a similar routine – very unsteady and he missed the final lift.

Corey managed to survive to skate another week – a decision I don’t fully agree with, as he is a little scary to watch out on the ice! It will be interesting to see what he produces next week!
