As we prepared to see thirteen couples become twelve, I wondered if thirteen was going to be an unlucky number for anyone, especially after all the hype in the press this week over Anton and his antics.

I wondered whether he would be dancing, and how it would it affect his persona and performance for a week full of saucy Salsa and flowing Foxtrot.

But I have to say at least his discriminating remark was not made on a live television show unlike someone on Saturday night!

Zoe Lucker and James

FOXTROT: What lovely floor craft these two have, with great footwork. The Foxtrot should be danced as if you are floating on air and I felt that the music was too heavy which made Zoe stutter a little. A well choreographed routine that looked almost effortless but definitely deserving of a nine.

Chris Hollins and Ola

SALSA: I am so glad Chris had a solo section in their routine, then I could take my eyes of Ola for a second and lower my blood pressure. I would like to award the BBC costume department an eleven for their additions this week. Back to tha dancing though - Chris can move and has a great little hip action. I would have preferred to see a few more steps in the routine, but a great, lively Salsa. There just needed to be a bit more spice, but a great effort, and shame on Craig and Len for scoring so low.

Lynda Bellingham and Darren

FOXTROT: This was Lynda’s best dance to date. She looked a lot more relaxed and unforced than in other dances, especially in her top line. For me it was the choreography that spoilt the overall effect and the music choice was more saunter than Foxtrot, but Lynda looked beautiful and did not deserve to be in the dreaded dance off. They were certainly not the worse couple and shouldn't have been voted out. Lynda can hold her head high, but what a shame.

Ali Bastian and Brian

SALSA: This was a fantastic routine and amazing choreography from Brian, right on the money and deserving of a semi-final. Ali has a beautiful hip action full of power and passion. She just needs to work on her leg action for this style as it was too stiff. It needed to be a little more down and dirty and not so careful and clean. Again for the second week running Ali and Brian are dancing rings round the majority of the other competitors yet the judges are still only scoring those eights. Give the girl some confidence and award what is deserved a nine!

Jo Wood and Brendan

FOXTROT: I have to say Jo reminded me of an auntie who was a little worse for wear at the end of a family party night! She has very loose footwork, occasionally she showed signs of sparkle, but the majority of the routine was flat not flowing. I wish Brendan would allow her to dance and not drag her round the floor, keep it simple and let her move on her own.

Natalie Cassidy and Vincent

SALSA: If the judges awarded marks for effort then Natalie deserved them. From the waist up she looked like she loved every second and moved effortlessly. However for me there was very little leg action and a lot of static feet. Maybe they have spent more time on the arm and body movements in rehearsal this week and neglected the steps. The salsa should be danced like a swan with graceful fluid body movements from the waist up and moving like the clappers in the feet.

Joe Calzaghe and Kristina

FOXTROT: This was Joe’s best dance so far. He looked calmer and more poised than in previous weeks. At times there were some nice body lines and flowing transitions developing. Joe still needs to work on his posture and the basics for the next few weeks if he wants to stay in the competition.

Laila Rouass and Anton

FOXTROT: This is the Anton we all love, fabulous, simple yet effective chorography set at the right standard for his celebrity partner. They made it all look effortless with beautiful musicality and shaping definitely deserving of a nine. Full of flow, flow, quick, quick flow.

Ricky Whittle and Natalie

SALSA: Ricky looked so at home performing the Salsa, but if I am absolutely honest Ricky was more fluid than Natalie. However I agree with Alesha’a comments, we know the guy can dance but we now expect more. All the other celebrities have upped their game yet Ricky, although looks good, has not excelled.

Craig Kelly and Flavia

FOXTROT: Craig needs to work on his frame, footwork, rise and fall but he did look more comfortable dancing than in other weeks. A lot more work is needed from these two to stay in the competition. Craig did deserve to be in the dreaded dance off, but I feel Len’s reason to save him, ‘because it is harder for a male celebrity than a female celebrity’ was wrong, I agree with the comment but when it comes down to the bottom two you should be marking the dance and their performance, not the gender.

Jade Johnson and Ian

SALSA: I was expecting Jade to go like lightening and treat this dance like a hundred metre sprint; she has great body movements even though they were a little uncontrollable in places, it all looked to high and erect, more like a Samba than a Salsa especially on Jades back basic which had far too large a step. Was it me or did the judges marks not match their remarks, scoring seven and eights after being slated?

Ricky Groves and Erin

FOXTROT: This was technically Ricky’s best dance, great control on the footwork and the routine flowed well. His frame was good but he still needs to relax his shoulders. Overall, it was a very convincing Foxtrot.

Phil Tufnell and Katya

SALSA: I can not believe Phil even danced this week after his knee operation and I thought he did fab-u-lous. What a great little Latin mover! Such natural, relaxed movements with seamless hip actions, the little sauce pot! I hope Phil has not jeopardised his recovery period as I am really looking forward to seeing his journey on Strictly.
