DANCE teacher Graham Vernon, from Samlesbury, gives his verdict on the eleventh episode of Strictly Come Dancing.

Rachel and Vincent

Waltz: They did it again. Another beautiful demonstration of a simple structured Waltz with fantastic poise and posture; even her left shoulder was lower this week. A gorgeous entrance with superb control on the toe spins.

Paso Doblé: A very powerful paso with great musicality and passion which was very difficult to do because of the music. I agree with Len’s comment that ‘the choreography lacked paso figures’, however they did not deserve to be in the bottom two. Do you agree?

Lisa and Brendan

Foxtrot: A good strong upper body and top line. There were a few little foot placing problems that were not quite tight enough but she is definitely the most improved celebrity on this series. She looks like a ballroom dancer but I did not feel it deserved the same score as Rachel’s. What do you think?

Cha Cha: A cheeky little Cha Cha with a great leg action from Lisa. She looked less heavy dancing Latin than in previous weeks and it was a good, simple choreographed routine executed extremely well.

Christine and Matthew

Tango: A good performance and presentation but it was lacking in passion. I also felt that because they were both dressed in black, you lost the shaping and positioning of the routine and it was a bad move. The music was very difficult to dance to and seemed very slow, but it did not have me on the edge of my seat.

Salsa: A lively routine but I would not say either the music or the choreography was Salsa. I would even go as far as saying it was boring in parts. It was quite heavy footed and the 'wrap your legs round my thigh spin thing' as just vulgar! I agreed with the judges' decision it was time for her to go.

Austin and Erin

Foxtrot: A very good clean introduction with a strong upper body but there were quite a few footwork issues. It was well performed but I think it could have been better and for Craig to score it higher than Tom’s Waltz was criminal. Do you agree?

Paso Doblé: A very brave introduction, delivered correctly and with great passion. A very well executed routine to a real Paso tune which makes all the difference to the feel of the dance. The content could have included more Paso Doblé figures, but a great performance.

Tom and Camilla

Waltz: A fabulous Waltz with fantastic glide action and placing of the feet. Beautifully controlled and excellent leads but there was too much rise and fall on his pivot turns, which was the reason he stuck his bum out. A wonderful demonstration and Craig’s seven was out of order.

Samba: Probably the most difficult of the Latin dances to do as a man: to keep the fluidity and suppleness without it becoming camp. Unfortunately for me it was the latter and the solo night fever section, which was then repeated just enhanced the holiday camp feeling. It was lively but just needed to be more earthy than cloudy.
