THE first-ever stage production at a new arts centre has been endorsed by literary legend Alan Bennett.

Actors from Pendle Borderline Theatre will be bringing Bennett’s classic Talking Heads to the ACE Centre, in Cross Street, Nelson, next month.

And while they invited the famed writer to their premiere, and he could not attend, he did send his best wishes for the three-night run.

Bennett said: “Good luck with the ACE’s production of Talking Heads. Alas I cannot be there as I have got a new play coming on at the National Theatre.

“I hope it all goes well.”

The original television series captivated audiences in the 1970s and 1980s, with Dame Maggie Smith, Dame Thora Hird, Julie Walters, Patricia Routledge and Bennett himself starring in a range of thought-provoking monologues.

Bennett’s eagerly-anticipated new play at The National, a follow-up to his successful production and film The History Boys, is A Habit of Art.

l Talking Heads runs from Wednesday, October 19, and Friday, October 21, 8pm.
