WHAT happens to actresses when they retire? They spend their twilight years in the Wings' Charity Home.

Here these aged ladies, once stars of the stage, grow older ungracefully amid squabbles, jealous and grandiose memories.

Or at least that's what happens in Burnley Garrick Club's latest production - Waiting in the Wings.

The once-great actress Lotta Bainbridge arrives at the Wings; years ago she married the ex-husband of one of the residents, May Davenport, and her arrival sparks off a feud.

It is only resolved when one deranged old lady sets fire to her room.

After this tragedy, Lotta and May spend what little time is left to them in peace and harmony.

Waiting in the Wings is showing at Burnley Mechanics from Wednesday, May 23 to Saturday, May 26. For tickets call 01282 664400.
