There are some hairstyles that have just stuck, no matter how many times a celeb has changed up their locks.
1. Jennifer Aniston: The Rachel
When Jennifer first came on the scene, it was the haircut EVERYONE was asking their hairdressers for in the mid 90s. After the first series, her hair went through multiple restyles but ‘The Rachel’ will always be what Friends fans loved the most.
2. Twiggy: The elfin crop
Cutting her hair in 1966 pretty much made model Twiggy (Lesley Hornby) a star. And the style is just as relevant today. Remember when Emma Watson got rid of her long locks in favour of a elfin crop and shed her Hermione Granger past at the same time? Michelle Williams and Carey Mulligan are long-time wearers of an adapted version of Twiggy’s crop too.
3. Brigitte Bardot: The Bardot
Brigitte Bardot’s hair was a celebrity in itself. Her voluminous, heavily layered waves with bangs at the front and a bouffant at the back, was one of a kind and totally wearable today.
4. Kate Middleton: The Kate blow dry
Perfectly blow-dried glossy waves without a strand of hair out of place is the dream, and Kate Middleton made it look possible. It wasn’t of course, she has a royal stylist constantly at her heels, but it doesn’t stop us saying “a bit like Kate” when the hairdresser asks how we’d like our hair blow dried.
5. Farrah Fawcett: The Farrah flicks
Charlie’s Angels actress Farrah Fawcett perfected hair flicks like no one had ever seen before. Now that the 70s are having a fashion moment again, Farrah’s feathered locks are recreated today with rollers up and down the country.
6. Audrey Hepburn: The Beehive
Holly Golightly was the role that made Hepburn a star and the beehive a thing. The eternal style of the Breakfast At Tiffany’s beehive lives on, but the actress had a dramatic style overhaul for every role she took on. Remember the short fringe in Roman Holiday?
7. Meg Ryan: The shag
When Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan got mail we couldn’t get enough of Meg’s choppy shag cut. It was an upgrade from her When Harry Met Sally mop and become a 90s classic.
8. Princess Diana: The sloane bob
Now a classic 80s look, the sloane bob was what Princess Di was sporting when she first found herself in the public eye in 1980.
9. Marilyn Monroe: 50s glamour
We couldn’t leave Marilyn Monroe out of this list. The actress’s platinum blonde curls and side parting became a symbol for glamour in the 50s. Not a natural blonde, Monroe inspired millions of women to experiment with hair colour and be a bit bolder.
10. Alexa Chung: The boyish cut
There was a touch of Patti Smith about her when Alexa Chung burst onto the scene. But Alexa managed to create a style more chic that Patti’s signature mop. The textured chop with middle parting bangs have become a fashionista favourite.
11. Victoria Beckham: The pob
Otherwise known as the posh bob. When VB moved from singing to fashion design, she emerged with a sleek long bob. She’s experimented with plenty of styles since but ‘the pob’ will always belong to Posh Spice.
