Lancashire Telegraph review by Simone Yates from January 29, 2011.

Following a day out shopping, Maxwell's Cafe and Wine Bar is the perfect pit stop.

After enjoying a glass of wine outside under the patio heaters, my friend and I were tempted to a late lunch and moved indoors to take advantage of the special offers.

The decor is contemporary and the staff were friendly, offering waitress service when ordering both food and drinks.

The menu at Maxwell's was perfect for what we wanted — something tasty, cheap and filling.

We both went for chilli prawns (£5.95) to start with and the portions were a good size, served with crusty bread that mopped up the remaining spicy sauce.

The prawns weren’t king — and were a little bit on the small side — but for under £6 we couldn’t complain.

For my main I had the beef lasagne (£8.00) served with salad and garlic bread. The pasta was soft, packed with plenty of beef mince between its layers. The sauce was tasty and the salad was fresh.

My friend went for plate meat pie, (£8.50), served with chips and vegetables. The pastry was home-made, the chunky chips were a treat, and the portion size was good value for money.

We were both too full for dessert so we finished off with an espresso and decided that we will definitely return.

Originally a part of Dawson’s Department Store, Maxwell’s Cafe Bar is situated directly across from the station and perfect for having an afternoon cocktail, followed by the last train home.
