Lancashire Telegraph review by Jemma Humphreys from January 1, 2011.
OUR visit to one of the newest cafes in Blackburn - in the Rovers Store in Church Street - brought about some very mixed reviews.
I think to be fair the establishment is still finding its feet and in the first year of any business there are bound to be teething problems.
But getting the basics right is what wins repeat custom.
And having virtually no choice on the wine menu is a bad start.
There was no white whatsoever, and only one rose and one red.
Beer choice was much greater with several branded bottles to choose from, and the real lemonade is a treat.
The food was also a varied success; the bacon, lettuce and tomato (blt) sandwiches were delicious, as was the soup (sweet potato and chorizo).
But the selection of panini we ordered were rather disappointing.
The brie and cranberry filling was the biggest letdown with very little brie and a jam-like filling that barely resembled cranberry.
And the chicken mozzarella and sunblushed tomato contained processed meat and was very bland.
The main impression from The Brew Room, was that the prices didn’t reflect the quantities, and the portions would benefit from about a 10 per cent increase to justify the £3-£5 price tag on each light bite.
Overall it’s got some work to do to make it a true success, but The Brew Room’s location, setting and staff mean that people will keep going back for more.
