Fresh from another successful Edinburgh Fringe, Cook brought a new stash of personal anecdotes to Burnley.

Ahead of his appearance at Blackburn and Darwen Comedy Festival in November, this show; ‘The End (Part 1)’, is a mix of funny stories involving a near death experience, inventing an Australian phrase that catches on all over the World, and revealing intimate facts about his relationship with his wife.

Cook also shared tales about the devil on his shoulder that makes him do anything to get a laugh in the most inaproppriate circumstances.

It would have been easy to dismiss this show as ‘just another Fringe-acclaimed comedian’, but Cook’s way of interacting with the audience; having a laugh with them without embarrassing or intimidating them is one to treasure, and he should be a role model for those comics who can’t get through a show without handing out put-downs to paying guests.

Eighty minutes of entertaining stories later, I left with the feeling you get after spending a couple of hours down the pub with one of your long-lost best mates. Cook is impossible not to like.

When you leave a comedy show buzzing about who you’ve just seen and poorly replicating their jokes, you know it’s a winner.
