Kevin Johansen and Liniers Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal Kevin Johansen is a well-known and highly respected singer/song-writer who hails from Argentina. He has been touring and recording albums for a number of years now, getting both popular and critical acclaim. His latest tour features something rather different - a cartoonist on stage, illustrating the songs.

Liniers is a newspaper cartoonist with a simple, elegant style. He sits to one side of the stage, a camera captures his marks on the paper and projects them onto the main screen. They are sometimes supplemented with pre-recorded animation.

It works extremely well. The songs are, in many cases, funny, sly and engaging. The cartoons complement them perfectly. Liniers revealed afterwards that he didn't always know what song was coming up, so was thinking on the fly. At one point, towards the end, they reversed roles and Liniers did an 'interesting' pastiche of Bob Dylan.

It made for a funny, unusual and very entertaining evening. There was only a small audience, which was a shame, but Kevin and Liniers nonetheless got plenty of energy into the room.
