Lancashire Telegraph review by Kimberley Hall from April 17, 2010.

I had a memory of the great home-cooked food I sampled at the Pack Horse as a child and had to make a return visit.

We arrived at 6.20pm and walked in to find they didn’t open until 6.30pm.

But the staff were happy to let us wait for a few minutes until they took our drinks order.

We hadn’t expected the place to be full on a Thursday evening so when asked if we had booked (which we hadn’t) and our name was added to a list on a clipboard, we thought they were just very organised.

But by 7pm the tables around us were filling up and by the time we left they were all occupied.

As soon as we saw the special for two our minds were made up: a three-course meal from a selected menu and half a litre of red or white wine all for a bargain price of £20.95.

Demolishing the breadsticks which were in a basket on the table — just how I remembered — our starters of garlic mushrooms in a chilli sauce and garlic bread with cheese arrived.

I didn't know which to eat first as both looked great, and we weren’t disappointed.

A pizza with chillies and salami and vegetable pasta special dish, (tagliatelle with olives, onions, peppers and pineapple) arrived soon after we’d finished our starters and were very good.

A thin crispy base on the pizza with plentiful toppings, and a huge portion of the pasta, went down a treat.

I am happy to say that my nostalgia was accurate and it is indeed still as good as it was 20 years ago.
