A party of nine of us went to The Butlers Arms to take advantage of their new menu and mid-week offers.

And the majority of us were happy with our ‘two for a tenner’ meals, accompanied by starters that were also a good price. To start I had prawn cocktail on a bed of salad with brown bread. The prawns were fresh and the sauce was homemade.

It was certainly a refreshing choice on a hot and sunny evening.

My friend had the pate, which again was tasty and there was enough to share around.

Five of us ordered fish and chips with peas and we weren’t dissapointed.

The fish was bigger than the plate and the chips were chunky and homemade.

A good choice, especially with a delicious tartare sauce that was tasty.

I can’t resist mentioning the homemade burger on a monster-sized bun with tender beef and salad that another one of the party ordered.

The starters and the main courses all came out together, at the right temperature, offering friendly and fast service.

The Butlers Arms has plenty to offer, with traditional pub grub in a family-friendly environment.

Situated next to the train station, a selection of real ales and house wines can also be taken advantage of.

A GIRLS’ night out used to mean trying to neck three bottles of cheap wine before midnight.

But it looks like we’ve grown-up, because a group of us met up for a rather civilised meal at The Butlers Arms, Pleasington, to kick off the weekend.

We took a while to order as everything on the menu sounded too appetising... and that was before we’d even seen the mouth-watering specials board.

In the end we managed to make a decision and went for two 15oz rump steaks with pepper sauce, a lamb shank, and a sirloin steak.

Vegetarians we are not. We waited for the meal, drinking a particularly nice rose and enjoying a catch-up gossip.

But the arrival of the food soon quietened us. In fact, I think it was a good five minutes before any of us came up for breath and stopped eating.

After sampling from everybody’s dish I can say with confidence that they were all delicious.

The service in this local, homely pub, is very good. Our young waitress didn’t flinch as we reeled off a list of sauces that we wanted as long as your arm.

It wasn’t cheap, at around £15 for a main course, but then again it was good quality food, presented well and served in a friendly, warm atmosphere, so why should it be?
