Lancashire Telegraph review by Caroline Taylor from December 4, 2009.

LOOKING for somewhere to take the folks, visiting one Sunday, for a traditional pub roast proved surprisingly difficult.

In the end we opted for Duckworth Hall Inn on the recommendation of a friend.

An olde-worlde style coaching inn, Duckworth Hall had a cosy welcoming atmosphere. Every table was occupied and many of the customers appeared to be returning regulars.

The menu had plenty of options, and that’s without even taking in the extensive specials board. In the end two of us went for the roast beef dinner. It was good, but was let down slightly by the meat, which was a bit dry.

One went for the braised steak in a rich sauce, which was deemed nice, but nothing special.

The two who opted for shoulder of lamb from the specials board, however, were the envy of the table.

The meat was tender and delicious, falling off the bone. The meal quickly descended into a gastronomical swap-shop, with spare Yorkshire puddings and boiled potatoes being offered in return for pieces of the mint-infused lamb.

The price was pretty good. For five of us, who each had a starter and at least two drinks, as well as one dessert and some coffees, the bill came in at a shade over £80.
