Lancashire Telegraph review by Richard Carr from October 16, 2009.

One thing I miss from my days working in Preston is the great choice it offers when you fancy a pub lunch.

Blackburn town centre has always struggled a little in this regard, with O’Neills and the Postal Order being the only decent options. It’s good then to see that The Jubilee is making an attempt.

The menu is very basic and probably aimed at students at the nearby college and university, but it’s a start.

We both tried a lunchtime staple, a jacket potato with cheese and beans. I’ve always thought of this as the acid test for any pub lunch.

At under £2 including side salad, there can be no complaints about the price. It had the moist consistency of a microwaved potato but overall it filled a gap.

The Thwaites bitter on tap was in good form considering it was early in the day — is there anything worse than a vinegary pint that’s been left in the pipes overnight?

While dining from the small menu regularly would definitely become a chore, the price and atmosphere made it a pleasant change from a cafe and I’m sure I’ll visit again.
