Lancashire Telegraph review by John Anson from August 14, 2007.

THE promise of a new menu - and the fact that it was still serving food even though it was getting late - led us to Oakenhurst Farm this week.

One of a dying breed, it remains a Brewers Fayre when many are being sold off, it's a light and modern establishment, if a little soul-less.

With a Brewers Fayre, you pretty much know what you're going to get - the unnatural square pies, the hat sized Yorkshire puds, the overly expensive glasses of wine!

There is a fair amount of choice and I went for the interesting sounding butternut squash risotto at £6.99 while the better half opted for the sun blushed tomato linguini at £5.99.

The risotto rice was quite nicely cooked and thankfully wasn't pudding like.

There were cubes of butternut squash which gave a distinct and interesting flavour although there was a little too much cheese sauce for my liking, making it all the more stodgy.

The dish was also served with a major plateful of salad.

The linguini tasted much better than it looked.

Again they'd gone overboard with the cheese, but the tomato sauce was full of flavour and the large slices of garlic ciabatta were just the thing to mop it up with.

Oakenhurst Farm is not the type of establishment you will ever walk away from feeling you have had a memorable meal, but that is not really what it sets out to do.

It offers pub fare at a consistent standard which fills the gap nicely when you're looking for a quick bite to eat.
