A Lancashire Monastic Way by John Convey, £9.95
A WONDERFUL walk, which passes through a variety of Lancashire and south Cumbria landscapes and coastlines, visiting the sites of many of the monastic houses which thrived in the 'old' Lancashire of medieval times. Following public footpaths, river banks and canal towpaths, including sections of established long-distance footpaths, the walk is divided into two sections: Upholland to Sawley and Cockerham to Furness. The introduction to each part of the walk includes details of the route using Ordnance Survey mapping, an overview of each monastic house and other buildings and sites of interest along the way and is completed with many colour photographs and details of public transport.
The second part of the book holds an extensive and detailed list of sources of information for further research including website addresses where relevant.
