BURNLEY indie rockers Pretend Girlfriend are calling it a day after 10 years — and they’re planning on going out with a bang.

The band, will play the Attic, Accrington, on Saturday, December 5, and are inviting all of their fans from over the years to join them in one last blow-out.

“The last 10 years has involved some hard work and also a lot of laziness,” said band members Simmy, Smit, Noel and Danny in a statement.

“We've had some quality gigs with decent crowds. We've also had some rubbish gigs where the audience has consisted of St John ambulance workers and the occasional lost oddball trying to find their way home.

“The last 10 years has seen us lose money, women, arguments, games of pool, weight, equipment and faith, but more importantly we have gained some real mates and some good memories.”

The band picked the Attic for their final gig in a bid to re-live their best-ever two gigs which they played at the venue in 2006.

Described by critics as: “A meeting of the Arctics and Oasis in a street, with moderate violence, certificate 15,” Pretend Girlfriend won fans over with their powerful indie rock songs.

Their no-nonsense style was to offer no frills, no gimmicks, just a desire to entertain and write good songs with true-to-life lyrics.

“We’re proud of the numbers that turned up at our gigs and feel lucky to have supported the likes of The Fall, Northside, Tom Hingley (Inspiral Carpets) and most of all Ginger from my favorite band of all time The Wildhearts,” continued the band.

“There have been times where we have let it slip and perhaps not done enough to push our music but when we look back over the years with the limited amount of time and money we had at our disposal we didn't make too bad a fist of it.

“Cheers to all of you who turned up and believed”
