GREASE is the word for young stars of the future who hope their first production goes like Greased Lightning!

Gill Bate, a publicity officer with Sale and Altrincham Musical Theatre (SAMT), is enthusiastic about Grease Junior, the debut performance by their newly formed SAMT Youth.

Among the 10-16-year-olds is a discovery. She is Lucy Allan who has the lead part of Sandy.

Gill said: “I asked the production team if anyone was making their stage debut.

“When asked, Lucy had put her hand up. She said that although she was an experienced singer with the Halle and Wellington High School choirs, she had never been in a stage show before.

“The moment she started to sing at the audition, we knew we had got our Sandy!”

Her stage boyfriend, Danny, will be played by Lucas Moore.

The director, Eleanor Cardoza and Musical Director and Choreographer, James Goodwin have worked with Urmston Musical Theatre’s Youth Section so they had no difficulty in recruiting the young cast, including the necessary boys,

They also used social media and included young people who had appeared in SAMT’s Annie.

“There is some lively, colourful choreography, including jive which brings the show to life.

“We have a lot of talent. The cast’s vocal ability is very strong,” said Gill.

She was impressed with their harmony singing especially in the opening number, Grease is The Word.

“One of the treats will be The High School Hop, the high energy number that starts Act II.

“The organisers do a lot of preparation. Before every rehearsal, Eleanor, James and Production Assistant, Petra Kerr meet to ensure everything is meticulously planned.”

Jill believes the audience will love this family friendly version which includes Summer Nights and other songs from the film.
