The day I came to Blackburn town
They were busy pulling t'market down
The watching crowd received a shock
To see them smashing t'market clock
Then getting hold of pick & spade
They disintegrated Thwaite's arcade
Having done this with destruction
They introduced the new construction
That cut King William street in two
Stopping the traffic getting through
T'get frae Darwen to Penny Street
Would involve a labyrinthine feat
The subtle music of the spheres
Is indicative of Blackburn fears!
BILL AUSTIN, Blackburn.
