From Hugh Davies, Burnley Road, Accrington.

FORTY five years ago when I was in school violence was low,
We were well disciplined and knew how far to go, On the bus on the way to school
Traditionally, we did tend to act the fool.
Rolling marbles around the brim of the teacher's hat
Pressing the bell and telling the driver he was too fat.
These I know were areas of neglect,
But deep down for our teachers we had great respect.
Teachers don't join the profession to be attacked,
Pupils and parents are abusing teachers that's a fact.
Violence against teachers is a disgrace
Like spraying aerosol cans in a teacher's face.
Throwing a teacher up against a brick wall
Being bit, scratched, hit, painful to recall.
We all had a teacher in school we did hate,
But as a professional band they're just first rate.
Our respect for our teachers must not get too low
Otherwise their confidence will suffer a big blow.
Respect them and support them on pedestals high,
Well done, excellent reach for the sky.
You are our future, get up and burn
The flame of passion to help us live and learn.
